Did You Know - Hard Waste on Nature Strips
Published on 06 February 2026
Council officers have observed an increase in hard waste being placed on Council nature strips outside residential properties.
Council does not provide a hard waste collection service and strongly discourages residents from placing hard waste on nature strips.
Leaving hard waste on nature strips is not only unsightly, but can also create safety risks for pedestrians and motorists. These risks are heightened during extreme weather events, such as strong winds, when items can be blown onto roads or footpaths.
Under Council’s General Local Law 2024, it is an offence to place items on Council land in a way that causes obstruction or danger:
Clause 58 – Obstructions on Council Land
A person must not place a rubbish container, clothing recycling bin, movable structure, device, material, or any other object on any road or Council land so as to:
- Cause an obstruction;
- Constitute a danger to any person; or
- Be in the way of, or likely to obstruct, traffic.
Council officers will continue to monitor townships for hard waste left on nature strips. Where non-compliance is identified, enforcement action may be taken.
Residents are encouraged to make appropriate private arrangements for the removal and disposal of hard waste.
Thank you for helping to keep our streets safe, accessible, and tidy.
