All works within the road reserve require a Road Reserve Works Permit. This includes, but is not limited to, works for construction or alteration of driveway crossovers, nature strip, storm water drainage connections and footpaths.
The following must be supplied with your application:
- Public Liability Certificate - Copy of public liability certificate of currency for the contractor carrying out works (providing coverage for at least $20 million).
- Sketch plan - A copy of a sketch plan showing the proposed work and all assets within the vicinity must be provided. Assets include all trees, road pavement, kerb and channel, footpaths, drains and service authority and private assets.
An Asset Protection Permit is required, and an additional fee will be charged for obtaining it.
Non Council Roads:
Council can only issue permits for works within a road reserve for roads that are managed by Council.
Council cannot issue a permit to work within a road reserve on a road that is managed by VicRoads, Parks Victoria, DEECA or any other private roads. Permits for works undertaken on land managed by any of these agencies should be directed to the relevant authority:
VicRoads: 13 11 71
Parks Victoria: 13 19 63
DEECA: 03 5336 6856
Visit this page to find out whether your road is managed by Council.
Insurance:
Public Liability insurance is important as it generally provides financial protection to both the public and the responsible persons conducting the works, in the event of an incident resulting in damages or injury to third party assets or persons.
Proof of certificate of currency is necessary before the application can be completed. We advise you to include the certificate of currency with the initial application form so we can process your application without delay.
The minimum policy coverage for persons/companies conducting works within the road reserve is $10 million.
