Minyip Changerooms & Netball Courts officially opened
Published on 01 May 2026
On Thursday our Mayor, Councillors, and CEO had the honour of recognising and celebrating the completion of the impressive Changeroom and Netball Court facilities at the Minyip Recreation Reserve, as well as acknowledging the substantial collaborative effort that made this project a reality.
Through the development of the Minyip Recreation Reserve Masterplan in 2023, it became clear that several key facilities at the reserve were no longer meeting contemporary standards or the growing needs of the community. The changeroom facilities were outdated, and the availability of only one netball court was limiting training, competition scheduling and future participation, particularly for women and girls.
What followed is a strong example of local leadership and community commitment.
Council would like to formally acknowledge Chris Delahunty, the Minyip‑Murtoa Football Netball Club committee, and Brent Hudson, together with the Minyip Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, for their leadership, dedication and tireless work. With the support of their committees and volunteers, they demonstrated an exceptional commitment to improving sporting opportunities for the Minyip and wider communities.
When the Australian Government announced the Play Our Way Grant Program in early 2024, the Minyip-Murtoa Football Netball Club and Minyip Recreation Reserve Committee recognised the alignment between the program’s objectives and the needs identified through the master planning process. Working collaboratively with Yarriambiack Shire Council, Sport and Recreation Victoria, Netball Victoria and Tennis Victoria, they progressed a well‑considered and high‑quality project, underpinned by detailed planning and strong partnerships.
That work was rewarded in December 2024, when the Minyip‑Murtoa Football Netball Club secured $1,992,750 in funding through the Play Our Way Program, supported by a $100,000 club contribution and a generous $50,000 contribution from the Rupanyup Minyip Finance Group. This level of investment reflects both the strength of the project and the confidence placed in the local community to deliver it.
Notably, the Minyip-Murtoa Football Netball Club, with the support of the Minyip Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, took on the responsibility of project managing and delivering the works, an outstanding achievement that demonstrates strong governance, capability and community leadership.
The completed facilities provide modern, functional and inclusive infrastructure for netballers, footballers both female and male, cricketers and the wider community. Importantly, the upgrades now position the Minyip Recreation Reserve as a key regional sporting venue, capable of hosting Wimmera Football Netball League finals, regional events and higher‑level competitions, delivering long‑term social, sporting and economic benefits to Minyip and the broader region.
On behalf of Council, we sincerely thank everyone who contributed their time, expertise and commitment to bringing this project to fruition. This is a significant achievement for Minyip and one the community can rightly be proud of.
