The Resource Ready Strategy has continued to be a focus of advocacy for Yarriambiack Shire Council and the Northwest Councils who commissioned the strategy.
I joined fellow Northwest Council representatives at a meeting with Minister D’Ambrosio’s Advisor on 01 July to advocate for investment into our region and Shire if our local government areas must host mining and renewable energy infrastructure.
The Northwest Councils were also provided with the opportunity to present to Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell MP from Pauline Hansons One Nation Party on Monday 20 July.
Advocacy will continue with a visit from Liberal Party members later in the year.
Alongside regional advocacy, Yarriambiack Shire Councillors remain active in promoting Council’s priority projects and housing initiatives.
On 9 July, I attended the Wimmera Southern Mallee Councils Alliance Mayors and Chief Executive Officers meeting, where guest speakers outlined the significant mental health challenges facing our region. They highlighted the urgent need for mental health beds in the Wimmera, as residents currently have to travel to Mildura or Ballarat for inpatient mental health care. Increased investment in preventative and inpatient mental health services is needed to strengthen support across the region.
Council is also pleased to announce that the Hopetoun affordable home is now complete. Once the subdivision’s power supply is rectified, we look forward to handing the property over to Dunmunkle Lodge.
