26. Feeding of Stray Animals or Birds on Private Property
Council Rangers have become aware of an increased number of stray cats within the community.
The feeding of stray and wild animals is prohibited within Yarriambiack Shire through the Local Law; Division 3 - Pets: 26. Feeding of Stray Animals or Birds on Private Property.
This law has been introduced to help control the stray animal population and prevent potential issues that arise, such as: health risks, property damage, and disruptions to the community. The act of feeding stray and wild animals can also cause harm to the animal and create a reliance on humans.
While Council understands that feeding these animals may come from a place of compassion, it is important to comply with this regulation. Failure to do so may result in enforcement action, including fines or other penalties.
Council is committed to working with the community to find a suitable solution to stray animals. Council can provide guidance on responsible animal management, including assistance from local animal welfare organisations or rehoming initiatives.
If you require support or have any questions, please contact Council Rangers at your earliest convenience via phoning #03 5398 0100.
Council appreciates the community's cooperation in helping to maintain a safe and healthy Shire for both residents and animals.
