Upgraded School Crossing for Hopetoun
Published on 16 May 2025
Yarriambiack Shire Council can confirm that the school crossing in Lascelles Street, Hopetoun will soon be getting major upgrades.
Thanks to funding from the Department of Transport and Planning, the crossing at the northern end of town will receive upgrades that include electronic speed signs, standard regulatory signs, kerb out-stands, connecting footpath and line marking.
Chief Executive Officer Tammy Smith stated that “This is an important upgrade that will keep children safer on their way to and from school, particularly given the proximity to the town entrance and the busy nature of the Henty Highway.”
Contractors have been engaged to deliver the project by the end of June.
A number of important upgrades around schools, main streets, crossings, dangerous road intersections across the Shire are also being planned as part of projects funded by the state Safe Local Roads and Street Program. Planning began this week with the Department of Transport and Planning, the Traffic Accident Commission, and Yarriambiack Shire Council, with more details to become available in coming weeks.
