Proposed Lease Variation – Woomelang Retirement Units
Yarriambiack Shire Council is seeking community feedback on a proposed Deed of Variation to its existing lease with Dunmunkle Lodge Inc.
Dunmunkle Lodge currently leases and manages seven independent living unit sites owned by Council across Warracknabeal, Murtoa, Hopetoun and Rupanyup under a 50-year lease established in December 2023. The proposed variation would add the Woomelang Retirement Units—seven units located in Dettman Lane (2 units) and 24 Gloucester Street (5 units) Woomelang.
Following the Woomelang Retirement Units Committee being placed into recess due to the inability to fill Executive positions at its Annual General Meeting, Council has explored alternative management arrangements to ensure the continued operation of these important community assets.
Dunmunkle Lodge Inc, a not-for-profit aged care provider with extensive experience managing independent living units and residential aged care services across the region, has formally expressed interest in assuming management of the Woomelang Retirement Units.
Dunmunkle Lodge Inc will establish a local Advisory Committee of Council to inform the management and administration of the units moving forward.
In accordance with Section 115 of the Local Government Act 2020, Council is required to undertake community engagement before entering into or varying a lease of 10 years or more.
The Community Asset Committee of Council supports the proposed lease variation and now invites community members to provide feedback on whether they support or do not support the proposal.
Submissions close at 5.00 pm on Friday, 21 August 2026.
