Nature Strip Tree Lopping Responsibilities Near Power Lines
This week we're outlining who is responsible for managing trees on nature strips near overhead power lines within Yarriambiack Shire Council, including statutory vegetation clearance distances. Who is Responsible?
Electricity Distribution Business (Powercor)
- Responsible for all vegetation within the statutory power line clearance zone.
- Pruning near overhead power lines must only be carried out by authorised line clearance personnel.
- Responds to emergency vegetation risks affecting electrical safety.
Yarriambiack Shire Council
- Responsible for street trees outside the power line clearance zone.
- Manages tree health, structure, amenity and public safety.
- Coordinates planned tree works with the electricity distributor where required.
Property Owners
- Are not responsible for trees located on nature strips (road reserves).
- Must not prune or interfere with trees near overhead power lines.
