Council's annual Fire Prevention Inspection Program is now underway. The first round of inspections has been completed in the northern part of the Shire, helping to identify properties that may present a fire risk as the fire season approaches.
Over the coming weeks, inspections will continue in Beulah and Warracknabeal, before progressing to the southern areas of the Shire. Authorised Officers will be assessing properties to ensure landowners are meeting their fire prevention responsibilities and reducing potential hazards.
Where a property is found to be overgrown or presenting a fire hazard, Council may issue a Fire Prevention Notice – requiring works to be completed within a specified timeframe. If the required work is not completed, the owner or resident may receive a penalty infringement notice, and further action may be taken by Council.
Did you know that maintaining your property by removing excess grass, weeds and other combustible materials can significantly reduce fire risk to your home, as well as your neighbours’ properties, and the wider community too? Council encourages all residents to begin preparing their properties now, ahead of the fire season.
Working together to reduce fire hazards helps create a safer community for everyone.
