Yarriambiack Shire is fortunate to enjoy many wonderful community-lead events that provide an important opportunity for togetherness and celebration. Each event is unique, with distinctive event activities that make them so enjoyable to attend. Specific event activities will require the event organiser to hold certain permits, which ensure the event activity is safe for everyone involved – these permits are typically due to building and planning regulations, General Local Laws, and duty-of-care responsibilities.
Yarriambiack Shire Council has developed a new Event Best-Practice Guide to aid our community with understanding the board scope of what events may require due to their unique event activities. The guide features essential information that all events should consider, including: event accessibility, child safety, first aid, and site planning. The guide also features information relating to specific event activity, including: alcohol, camping, fireworks, temporary structures, and traffic management.
In addition to the Event Best-Practice Guide, Council has updated the event process for event organisers engaging with Council. A new Event Notification form is now available (as an online form and a hard-copy form). This new form gathers specific information via simple yes and no questions for the purpose of differentiating what specific permits are required based on the event activity. The form also offers common event supports that Council can provide to event organisers, most notably: Council attendance, waste management support, and traffic management support.
The benefits of notifying Council of an upcoming event includes:
Council's full event process is detailed in the Events Policy and Procedure. This document sets out Council's role, responsibility and requirements for events held on Council-owned and Council-managed land, as well as significant events that impact the host community.
The new process has been brough about due to important feedback from event organisers – Yarriambiack Shire Council thanks our region’s event organisers for their continued cooperation to ensure our wonderful events can continue to grow and entertain safely.
