Blue-Green Algae Alert - Yarriambiack Creek - January 2026

Yarriambaick Shire Council has issued a Blue-Green Algae (BGA) Alert for Yarriambiack Creek, Warracknabeal.
Until further notice, the creek should not be used for any recreational activities that involve direct contact with the water.
Contact with blue-green algae affected water can result in skin rashes/itchiness, eye and ear irritations, headaches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In the event of adverse health issues, please seek medical attention.
Pet owners are encouraged to prevent animals from drinking and coming into direct contact with blue-green algae affected water.
Warning signs will be situated in prominent areas around the creek.
Regular monitoring of the creek will continue, and the community will be advised once blue-green algae levels are considered safe, as per the limits prescribed in the Victorian Blue-Green Algae Circular.
